In a proactive move to stem the tide of drug trafficking, authorities at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) executed a decisive operation resulting in the apprehension of five individuals involved in a foiled cocaine smuggling attempt. The interception comes amid intensified efforts to combat illicit drug trade and uphold public safety and security.

The intercepted individual, Apoko Damaris Adhiambo, 32, was caught at Terminal A1’s central screening area as she attempted to board a Kenya Airways flight bound for Antananarivo, Madagascar. Suspicion arose during routine scanning procedures, leading to the discovery of concealed items in her under garment. Subsequent searches revealed 600 grams of cocaine pellets hidden on her.

Further investigation uncovered Adhiambo’s association with a Ugandan national identified as Harriet Asaba, who was promptly arrested in Nairobi CBD. As detectives delved deeper into the trafficking network, leads led them to the VIP Beauty Shop in the Free Area Hotel building, where an additional 33 pellets of crack cocaine were seized. Three more suspects, including another Ugandan national and two Kenyan women, were apprehended in connection with the operation.

Presumptive tests confirmed the presence of cocaine in the recovered pellets, totaling approximately 996 grams. Legal proc eedings have been initiated against the arrested individuals, while ongoing collaborative efforts with InterPol aim to identify and apprehend the intended recipients of the narcotics in Antananarivo.

This successful interception underscores the unwavering commitment of law enforcement agencies to safeguarding borders and combating transnational organized crime. It serves as a poignant reminder of the persistent challenges posed by drug trafficking and the imperative need for sustained vigilance and cooperation in addressing this global scourge.
