Dr. Waqo Dulacha Ejersa, OGW, has taken on the role of Chief Executive Officer at the Kenya Medical Supplies Authority (KEMSA). President William Ruto’s decision underscores a commitment to inclusive leadership and introduces a wealth of healthcare expertise to KEMSA.
Dr. Dulacha Ejersa will replace Andrew Mulwa, who has served as Acting CEO since May 2023. The position, which was advertised in MyGov, offers a four-year term with the possibility of renewal based on performance.
Dr. Dulacha Ejersa brings over 25 years of experience in the healthcare sector. He most recently led the National Tuberculosis, Leprosy, and Lung Diseases Division at the Ministry of Health. In this role, he managed critical health issues and directed significant national health initiatives.
Previously, Dr. Dulacha Ejersa worked as Public Health Specialist and Head of the National Malaria Control Program.
Dr. Dulacha played a crucial role in developing and implementing Kenya’s Malaria Strategy for 2013-2018, advancing malaria control efforts. His experience as Provincial Health Director for Rift Valley, where he managed over 70 healthcare facilities, further demonstrates his management skills.
In 2018, Dr. Dulacha Ejersa was a top candidate for the KEMSA CEO position but did not secure the role. Despite his strong qualifications and high ranking, the position was re-advertised, and another candidate was appointed. Additionally, in 2022, he ran for the Saku parliamentary seat but lost to Major Raso.
As KEMSA’s new CEO, Dr. Dulacha Ejersa will handle budget allocation, advise on resource use, and focus on enhancing KEMSA’s operations. His leadership will support Kenya’s Universal Health Coverage (UHC) initiative by ensuring the efficient distribution of Health Products and Technologies.
Dr. Dulacha Ejersa’s appointment aims to boost KEMSA’s efficiency and advance Kenya’s healthcare goals.
