Isiolo Governor Abdi Ibrahim Guyo appeared before the Senate Committee on Finance and Budget today to address concerns about his administration, particularly pending bills in Isiolo County. Governor Guyo assured the committee of his commitment to fulfilling constitutional obligations and attending all required sessions.
However, he raised concerns over political interference, accusing Senator Fatuma Dullo of using the Senate to pursue local political goals and micromanage county affairs. “The Senate should not indulge in local politics,” Guyo stated, urging impartiality. He noted that Senator Dullo’s multiple requests had led to his repeated summons before Senate committees.
Despite the challenges, Guyo reaffirmed his respect for the Senate while stressing that it should not be used as a political tool. The pending bills issue remains contentious, with Dullo’s statements intensifying scrutiny on the Governor’s administration.
In support of Guyo, Senator Boni Khalwale praised his political journey, from MCA to Governor, encouraging him to aim higher. “You have great potential for career growth,” Khalwale remarked, commending Guyo’s dedication to public service.
Previously, Guyo faced issues attending Senate sessions, which he clarified were due to other pressing commitments. The imposition of a fine by the committee further complicates the dialogue between the Governor and the Senate. Both parties are now tasked with navigating governance and accountability in Isiolo County.
The Senate Committee adjourned the session after acknowledging the Governor’s responses, allowing time for review. Further action, including escalation to a Senate plenary, will be decided in due course.
