Haitian Prime Minister Ariel Henry has resigned from his post, a role he assumed after the 2021 assassination of the country’s former president. The announcement was made by Caribbean Community (CARICOM) chair and Guyanese President Irfaan Ali on Monday.
President Ali acknowledged Henry’s resignation as Haiti established a transitional presidential council and appointed an interim prime minister. The 74-year-old neurosurgeon had been leading the government since the tumultuous events surrounding the assassination.
Expressing gratitude for Henry’s service, President Ali highlighted the formation of a transitional council, a crucial step in Haiti’s political transition.
