Earlier today, Isiolo County Woman Representative Hon. Mumina Bonaya visited Afya Mile Dental Clinic’s 680 branch in Nairobi. She accessed services and took the opportunity to promote and celebrate the outstanding work of Dr. Maj. (Rtd.) Amina Aga. Her visit was more than just a routine check-up. It was a moment of recognition for a woman who has broken barriers and built a thriving enterprise against all odds.
Dr. Amina Aga’s story is one of resilience and determination. Born and raised in Kinna, Isiolo County, she grew up in a community where girls’ education was not always a priority. However, from an early age, she was determined to pursue her dreams.

After excelling at Galma Dido Primary School, she secured a place at Isiolo Girls High School, where she continued to shine academically. Her hard work paid off when she joined medical school to study dentistry.
She later took a bold step by joining the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) as a specialist dentist. Over the years, she gained invaluable experience treating complex dental cases in high-pressure environments. After 15 years of dedicated service, she retired at the rank of Major to venture into private practice.
With a clear vision for quality dental care, Dr. Amina established Afya Mile Dental Clinic. Today, her practice is among the most advanced dental care providers in Kenya. The 680 branch, which Hon. Mumina visited, stands out for its world-class equipment, modern facilities, and highly trained professionals.
The clinic offers a wide range of services. These include extractions, fillings, root canal therapy, full mouth cleaning, teeth whitening, implants, crowns and bridges, minor oral surgery, dentures, and orthodontic braces. Afya Mile Dental Clinic also prioritizes accessibility by accepting major health insurance covers. This ensures more Kenyans can afford specialized care.
During her visit, Hon. Mumina commended Dr. Amina for her resilience, success, and dedication to healthcare. She highlighted the significance of women excelling in male-dominated fields. She also emphasized the importance of strong role models for young girls, especially in marginalized communities like Isiolo.
Her visit aligned with her broader efforts in education. Through her Masomo Kwanza (Education First) initiative, she has championed school bursaries, improved infrastructure, and provided learning materials. She has also played a key role in expanding Isiolo Girls High School and supporting menstrual health programs to keep more girls in school.
Recently, she reaffirmed her commitment to education by donating a Ksh. 5.6 million school van to Isiolo Girls Secondary School. Speaking during the handover, she urged parents to invest in local schools, emphasizing that real change begins in the classroom.
The meeting between Hon. Mumina and Dr. Amina was more than just a courtesy call. It was a powerful moment that highlighted the potential of women from marginalized communities to rise, lead, and transform lives. While one has shattered barriers in leadership and education, the other has revolutionized healthcare and entrepreneurship.
Their shared commitment to uplifting others serves as an inspiration for many. It proves that with determination and hard work, no ceiling is too high to break.
