Over the past few weeks, Hon. Mumina has taken decisive action to address educational challenges in Isiolo County. On the floor of Parliament, she presented a motion urging the Ministry of Education to fast-track the approval of Junior Secondary Schools in the region. During the same week, she organized a workshop for education stakeholders to strategize on improving academic standards across the county.
In her “Masomo Kwanza“ (Education First) initiative, Hon. Mumina held a fundraiser for Isiolo Girls to support the construction of a modern library, the purchase of a new school van, and a generator to ensure uninterrupted learning during power outages. This initiative, a top priority for the Woman Representative, reinforces her commitment to ensuring no child is left behind in the pursuit of a brighter future through education.
Hon. Mumina’s commitment to education spans decades. As the Isiolo Woman Representative (MP) and a former Cabinet Administrative Secretary (CAS) in the Ministry of Education, she has leveraged her roles to drive systemic reforms.
During her tenure as CAS, she tackled Isiolo County’s shortage of field officers, who play a crucial role in curriculum supervision. To resolve this, she redeployed 20 teachers to the Ministry, promoting them to Chief Education Officers and Quality Assurance Officers to enhance oversight.
Since becoming Woman Representative, Hon. Mumina has prioritized education through tangible interventions. She has issued bursaries to over 400 students, distributed desks, lockers, textbooks, and revision materials, and advocated for infrastructure improvements in schools.
Her advocacy also focuses on addressing career stagnation among teachers. In 2023, she presented a compelling case to the Teachers Service Commission (TSC), highlighting how Isiolo teachers had remained in the same job group for years without promotion.
This led to the promotion of over 300 teachers in 2024, a historic achievement compared to previous years when only a handful advanced. She has continued this momentum in 2025, successfully pushing for the promotion of more teachers.
Beyond policy, Hon. Mumina has directly facilitated employment opportunities for over 50 teachers since her time at the Ministry.
Her unwavering dedication to education, marked by strategic advocacy, resource allocation, and grassroots engagement, underscores her role as a transformative leader for Isiolo.
