Nairobi, Kenya – Isiolo County took a major step toward economic transformation following a consultative forum hosted by Deputy President Prof. Kithure Kindiki at his residence in Karen. The meeting, organized by Isiolo Governor Abdi Ibrahim Hassan, brought together more than 400 leaders, professionals, and residents from all wards. The discussions focused on three key sectors: agriculture, livestock, and mining. These sectors are essential for creating jobs and improving livelihoods. Isiolo, a pastoralist region, plans to revitalize its livestock value chain, aiming to strengthen this sector and open access to both local and international markets. Revitalizing agriculture and livestock will help increase the county’s economic resilience and create new opportunities for growth.

Delegates raised several priorities, including improving the road network, expanding electricity access, and enhancing security through the establishment of more police posts. They also pushed for the fast-tracking of important projects such as the abattoir and Isiolo airport. Additionally, the delegates called for the creation of new administrative boundaries to improve governance, and stressed the need for greater inclusivity in regional appointments. They also focused on improving water access and developing vocational training institutions for youth employment.

The forum proved to be a major win for Isiolo, especially with other development pledges in progress. The national government confirmed its commitment to supporting the county’s growth. To ensure swift and effective implementation, the government appointed a Steering Committee, chaired by Principal Secretary Mohamed Liban. This committee will oversee the projects and address any challenges that arise.

Deputy President Kindiki emphasized the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA), focusing on agriculture and livestock. He also stressed the importance of improving infrastructure, security, and services to support economic activities and attract investment to Isiolo. His remarks aligned with national priorities, offering a clear path for Isiolo’s future.

The forum was a pivotal moment in Isiolo’s development, underscoring the importance of collaboration between national and county governments. Isiolo is now positioned to become a thriving hub for opportunity and growth.

All stakeholders reaffirmed their commitment to unlocking Isiolo’s potential. By aligning their efforts with national priorities, they remain confident in the county’s future. The discussions also highlighted the need for inclusivity, strategic planning, and accountability to ensure sustainable progress.
