The Isiolo County Assembly has initiated a groundbreaking program known as “Bunge Mashinani” in Sericho Ward. This initiative marks a significant step toward enhancing public participation in governance. By bridging the gap between the government and the community, residents can voice their concerns directly.
Led by County Speaker Mohammed Roba Qoto, this program is the first of its kind since devolution began, setting a precedent for genuine grassroots engagement.
During the launch event, Speaker Roba and County Clerk Salad Boru emphasized the critical role of public participation in driving meaningful development. Indeed, engaging with citizens at the grassroots level is essential for understanding their challenges.
This initiative provides a platform for residents to express their concerns. Moreover, it ensures that their feedback is considered in the budget-making process and reaches the executive for action.
The program will extend to all ten wards. Furthermore, plans are already in place for Oldonyiro to host the next session within three months. This approach highlights the Assembly’s commitment to consistent and inclusive public engagement. On the inaugural day, Speaker Roba and Assembly members met with Sericho residents. They listened attentively to their voices, ensuring everyone had a chance to speak.
Residents seized the opportunity to address longstanding issues such as flooding during rainy seasons, deteriorating road networks, water shortages, and insufficient staffing at health facilities. In response, Speaker Roba assured the community that their concerns would be prioritized in the Assembly’s upcoming budget process. This commitment aims to enable Governor Abdi Ibrahim Guyo and his executive team to address the identified issues directly. Thus, this effort demonstrates the collaboration between the County’s legislative and executive branches.
The launch of “Bunge Mashinani” represents a significant advancement in Isiolo County’s governance. It empowers residents to participate actively in shaping policies that affect their lives. As the Assembly plans to hold similar events annually, this initiative marks a new era of accountability and transparency in local governance. Ultimately, it reinforces the commitment to enhance service delivery for the people of Isiolo.
