MGB Tournament Final: Grevy Zebra Triumphs on Eid in Isiolo

The much-anticipated final of the Isiolo Ramadhan football tournament saw Grevy Zebra FC face off Bilbao Nabawi FC at Isiolo Boys High School on Eid-ul-Fitr. As expected, a massive crowd gathered, with fans from across the county filling the stands to witness the thrilling showdown.

Both teams displayed skill, determination, and sportsmanship. They fought hard for the coveted championship title. In the end, however, only one team emerged victorious, lifting the trophy to the cheers of an ecstatic audience.

Hon. Mumina Gollo Bonaya, in partnership with NACADA, organized the tournament to engage youth positively and steer them away from drug abuse. With 33 teams participating, including two girls’ teams, the event provided young players with a platform to showcase their talent. Moreover, it helped them build teamwork and embrace discipline.

Beyond the competition, the tournament fostered unity and strengthened community spirit. As a result, many residents praised the initiative as a powerful step in addressing Isiolo’s growing substance abuse problem.

Furthermore, structured sporting activities gave young people a positive outlet for their energy. This, in turn, reduced their vulnerability to drugs and crime. Hon. Mumina emphasized that sports are a key tool for social change. She remains committed to shaping a generation that is focused, empowered, and ready for progress.

In addition to sports, she is leading long-term efforts to combat drug abuse in Isiolo. Last year, after successfully advocating for a NACADA office in the county, she recently met with County Secretary Dade Boru. Together, they discussed both immediate and long-term solutions.

As a key outcome of their discussions, an outpatient treatment wing will soon be established at Isiolo County Referral Hospital. This facility will provide medical care, psychological support, and counseling for individuals struggling with addiction. Consequently, those affected will receive the help they need to recover and reintegrate into society.

Moreover, Hon. Mumina commended Governor Guyo Abdi Ibrahim for his commitment to this initiative. She also reaffirmed her dedication to championing programs that uplift the youth, promote healthy lifestyles, and create more growth opportunities.

Ultimately, the successful completion of this tournament is just the beginning of her broader vision for youth empowerment in Isiolo. Through sports, mentorship, and strategic interventions, Isiolo is taking a stand against drug abuse. As a result, the county is paving the way for a brighter future.
