Exploding communication pagers killed eight people and injured 2,750, including Hezbollah fighters and Iran’s envoy to Beirut. The blasts occurred across Lebanon, and Hezbollah directly blamed Israel for the attack. Lebanon’s Information Minister, Ziad Makary, condemned the incident, labeling it as “Israeli aggression.” Meanwhile, Hezbollah promised revenge, though Israel has not responded.
A senior Hezbollah official described the explosions as the group’s “biggest security breach” since their conflict with Israel intensified. The war escalated after the Gaza conflict in October 2023. The explosions began at 3:45 p.m. local time and continued for an hour. Hezbollah confirmed that two of its fighters and a young girl died in the explosions. Authorities are still investigating how the pagers were triggered.
The Lebanese Red Cross quickly deployed 50 ambulances and 300 medics to respond to the hardest-hit areas, especially in Hezbollah-controlled Beirut suburbs. Many victims suffered severe facial, limb, and eye injuries. Among the injured was Iran’s ambassador to Lebanon.
Lebanese security forces confirmed that multiple wireless devices detonated across the country. According to sources, these devices were recent models used by Hezbollah, which points to a highly sophisticated attack.
Lebanon’s foreign ministry strongly condemned the explosions, describing them as a “deliberate Israeli escalation.” Given recent threats from Israel to expand the conflict into Lebanon, many fear this incident could lead to more violence. While Hezbollah leader Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah escaped unharmed, the attacks have raised tensions even further, increasing the likelihood of additional clashes.
