President Mohamud’s participation in the AfDB 2024 Annual Meetings underscores Somalia’s commitment to regional cooperation and economic development.

In his address, he emphasized the ongoing efforts of Somalia in combating terrorist groups that have plagued the country for over a decade. He acknowledged the progress made but stressed that Somalia is still far from where it aspires to be. However, he shared an optimistic outlook, revealing that Somalia will soon join the United Nations Security Council, marking a significant milestone for the nation.

Speaking at the summit, President Mohamud highlighted Somalia’s dual focus on overcoming security issues and addressing climate-induced challenges. He called for joint global solutions to combat the common challenges of climate change, emphasizing Somalia’s efforts to mitigate severe conditions such as droughts and recurrent floods. Despite these challenges, he noted that Somalia has made significant progress, particularly in transforming its financial institutions, leading to debt relief and domestic revenue growth.

During the high-level opening session of the AfDB Annual Meetings, President Mohamud participated in a Presidential Dialogue on the theme “Africa’s Transformation, African Development Bank Group, and Reform of the Global Financial Architecture.”

His participation alongside other African Heads of State, including H.E. Dr. Williams Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya, showcased a unified effort to address and overcome regional challenges through collaboration and innovative solutions.

His discussions and engagements at the summit are expected to foster deeper cooperation, paving the way for sustainable development initiatives across Africa.

The delegation accompanying him, including high-profile figures such as Defence CS Aden Duale and Ambassador Jabril Ibrahim Abdulle, reflects the collaborative spirit and mutual support in addressing regional challenges.
