In a recent operation conducted by a special operations team based at Archers Police Post in Samburu East, significant progress was made in combating livestock theft and enhancing security in the region. During the operation on March 15, 2024, at Sero Longai Village, the team successfully recovered 18 heads of cattle that were previously stolen in Meru County.
The operation, which took place at around 0300hrs, was not without its challenges. A fierce exchange ensued between the security team and suspected morans, resulting in damage to the radiator of a police lorry registered as GKB 408U. Despite the resistance faced, the security team managed to recover more than just stolen livestock.
In addition to the recovered cattle, the team seized an AK-47 rifle that was loaded with 23 rounds of ammunition. This significant discovery highlights the seriousness of the criminal activities being perpetrated by these groups. Furthermore, three TECNO mobile phones were also confiscated from the suspected morans, providing potential leads for further investigations.
The recovered livestock were promptly returned to their rightful owners, providing a sense of relief and justice to those affected by the theft. Meanwhile, the seized firearm and mobile phones have been handed over to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) for thorough investigation and potential links to other criminal activities.
This successful operation underscores the commitment of security forces to combat livestock theft and maintain law and order in the region. It also serves as a reminder of the persistent challenges faced in remote areas where criminal elements continue to operate. The collaborative efforts between law enforcement agencies and local communities remain crucial in addressing these security concerns and ensuring the safety and well-being of all residents.
