Two people were killed, and several others were injured in violent attacks in Isiolo County last night. The attacks took place in Kambi Garba, Ola Bule, and Boji Dera, where armed assailants stole livestock and engaged in a gunfight with local security forces. In a separate incident, security forces shot and killed two suspects disguised in police uniforms. They recovered 211 stolen cows from the attackers.
Governor Abdi Guyo responded quickly to the violence. He held an emergency meeting with the County Security Committee to assess the situation. The Governor also visited the affected areas to offer support and reassure the community that their safety is a top priority.
Along with Deputy Inspector General of Police Mr. Masengeli, Governor Guyo deployed additional security forces to the region. This has led to the recovery of some stolen livestock. Efforts continue to recover the remaining animals and bring those responsible to justice. DIG Masengeli confirmed that the attackers will face charges including murder and robbery with violence.
Governor Guyo also recently met with the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Kanja, to discuss the accelerated deployment of National Police Reservists (NPR) in the area. The aim is to enhance security and curb the rising issue of cattle rustling. The meeting highlighted the shared commitment to creating safer, more stable environments for the residents of Isiolo.
In addition, Governor Guyo highlighted recent security improvements in the region. One notable initiative is the establishment of an Anti-Stock Theft Unit in the Mlango areas, supported by former Interior Cabinet Secretary Prof. Kithure Kindiki. The unit aims to reduce livestock theft and violence.
Despite the tragic events, the Governor offered his condolences to the families of the victims. He also pledged continued support to those affected. Governor Guyo called for unity and resilience as Isiolo works toward restoring peace and security.
