The Garbatulla Medical and Surgical Camp officially commenced today at Garbatulla Sub-County Hospital, offering renewed hope to hundreds of residents who often struggle to access specialised healthcare services. The camp, which runs from 18th to 23rd December, is a joint initiative led by the Office of the First Lady of Isiolo County through the Mama Hassan Foundation, in partnership with several health institutions and professional bodies.

For many patients, the camp is a rare opportunity to receive quality care without the heavy costs associated with referrals outside the county. Free services are being provided in key areas including obstetrics and gynaecology, paediatrics, internal medicine, dental care, ophthalmology and general surgery. More than 150 doctors and medical specialists have been deployed, ensuring patients receive timely consultations, diagnosis and, where necessary, surgical interventions.
Speaking during the opening day, Dr. Mohamud Meru, Chief Officer for Health and Medical Services, said the initiative reflects the county leadership’s commitment to strengthening community-based healthcare. He noted that the camp is designed to remove financial and geographical barriers that often prevent residents from seeking early treatment. Patients are being attended to daily between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.
The Isiolo County Government has encouraged residents to take full advantage of the ongoing camp, describing it as a practical demonstration of people-centred leadership. As the week continues, the Garbatulla Medical and Surgical Camp stands as a clear reminder that improving access to healthcare remains a central pillar of Isiolo County’s development agenda.
